Airnergize Capital, the clean technology investment platform of New GX Capital, has achieved a final close for Fund I at R3.89 billion. The Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) served as the lead development finance institution, committing R240 million. Airnergize Capital invests institutional and development capital into energy, water, and gas infrastructure businesses across Southern Africa and the broader continent, targeting commercial financial returns alongside measurable environmental and social outcomes.
The platform’s investor roster aligns state-backed development capital with domestic commercial balance sheets in a single platform structure. Alongside the anchor commitment from the DBSA, the Fund I LP group comprises parent sponsor New GX Capital, RMB Ventures, Standard Bank, and Nedbank. The fund is black owned and controlled, designed to crowd in commercial private capital to address regional infrastructure financing requirements at scale.
Initial capital deployment focuses on commercial and industrial (C&I) solar and energy storage assets currently operating across South Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, and the Indian Ocean islands. Beyond initial C&I allocations, the vehicle’s targeted investment pipeline encompasses utility-scale power generation, transmission-related infrastructure, water management systems, and gas infrastructure.
Airnergize Capital operates within New GX Capital’s broader multi-asset platform. The clean technology platform sits alongside AiZAR Capital, which manages the group’s digital infrastructure portfolio, and Airnergize Ventures, an early-stage venture arm focused on seed and growth investments in clean technology and digital innovation.
