Proparco has committed $15 million to Capitalworks IV, a mid-market private equity fund managed by South Africa–based Capitalworks targeting a $350 million fundraise. The commitment aligns with Capitalworks’ strategy to deploy growth capital and strategic support to high-potential mid-sized companies across South Africa, driving economic development, job creation, and private capital mobilization. Capitalworks IV will target key sectors including consumer goods, industrial services, logistics, distribution, hospitality, and tourism.
The investment is projected to create and sustain over 2,150 direct and indirect jobs across key sectors in South Africa while catalyzing private institutional capital to accelerate enterprise growth. This aligns with Proparco’s 2023–2027 strategy which identifies South Africa as a priority market, fostering dynamic private sector leaders capable of driving sustainable regional economic expansion.
South Africa has one of the continent’s most dynamic private sectors, with mid-sized companies playing a vital role in driving economic growth and job creation. By investing in Capitalworks IV, Proparco is reinforcing its long-term commitment to the region and supporting a local fund manager with the expertise to help promising businesses scale, strengthen their resilience and deliver lasting economic impact.
